Hair Secrets from around the World - 8

Its been a while since I wrote a post about hair secrets from around the world, and what better place to get back in the flow then the land down under? Australia's dry climate makes for some of the harshest skin conditions anywhere on earth with a staggering statistic that by the age of 70 two out of three Australians will develop skin cancer. While people have learn't to deal with the extreme temperatures, the indigenous plants have evolved and thrive where others would simply wilt. The list of unique plants and fruits is extensive, so I chose to discuss two extra special finds that are rich in replenishing ingredients suitable for hair and skin.

The Kakadu Plum, is a native fruit of  Australia, and is the richest natural source of Vitamin C known to man. It contains 50 times more Vitamin C than citrus fruit.  Vitamin C is an invaluable anti-oxidant for hair and skin care. The anti-oxidants help neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals, and is well know for helping to treat and prevent hair loss. The best way to use vitamin C to combat hair loss is to modify your diet to include foods that are rich in vitamin C. So why take the supplements when you can eat it directly from the tree!

While the amount of vitamin C is impressive, Australia has another ancient secret :-  The Quandong, or Desert Peach. It's a member of the Sandalwood family, and well known amongst Aboriginal Australians for its usefulness in treating skin and scalp conditions. The bark and roots contain anti bacterial properties. Quandong kernels contain a valuable oil that has as a soothing action for a variety of scalp conditions including dry-scalp and dandruff. The Aboriginal tribes would also use the oil from the crushed kernels as a form of hair conditioning oil. I found an Australian Organic hair care range that uses Desert Peach in it's moisture balancing conditioners, suitable for fine/limp hair. Check out their website HERE

Feeling Adventurous?

I could not resist talking about this new product! While it does  fit into ' Hairstyling ' category, we are not qualified in dealing with that zone. What is this latest trend? Lets start by saying  vajazziling is a thing of the past! In it's place is 'The Foxy Bikini.'

The trend was given the limelight by Cindy Barshop, a former reality star from The popular Real Housewives of New York, and the owner of Completely Bare body waxing salon. The treatment starts by the bikini line getting waxed bare and replaced with a pubic wig made from real fox fur. If your really feeling adventurous, you can have The Carnivale Bikini, in which the bare area is adorned by a fan of exotic-looking feathers just in time for Rio. The Carnivale costs $195, while the vibrant neon Fox fur is going for $225.

Braided Up-Styles Dominate the SAG Awards 2012

Headband braids are always popular, but they dominated the redcarpet at the 2012 SAG Awards.
Dianna Agron chose a messy fishtail braided up-do that wrapped 3/4 of the way around her head. Renee Bargh's Braid is incorporated like a hairband into her cascading curls, and neatly tucked into her quiff. Ariel Winter had a subtle face framing braid, while Kaley Cuoco wore a thick plait accentuated by lots of free tendrils that gave the style an old Hollywood  feel. I am so happy that braids are here to stay! The other trend that has stuch around with us is the ballerina bun. Zoe Saldana's bun was less structured, and much softer then Natalie Portman's up-style, however both are glamorous and elegant on the red carpet.

Colour Bug

This fun and fashionable boho trend has everyone talking. Brightly hued highlights are on the tips of many celeb strands. We were recently introduced to a tool that can give us the look, without the commitment. Kevin Murphy's COLOR BUG allows you to color the ends of your hair temporarily with " Eye shadow" for the hair.

Favorite looks from The Golden Globes 2012

Charlize Theron looked spectacular as always at the Golden Globes 2012. Her subtle wavy hair worn side bun was finished off with a sparkly hair band, an accessory spotted on the Louis Vuitton SS12 runway shows. While the bun could have done with an extension to add some body, the overall look was very cute, and her dress was spectacular!

Kate Beckinsale oozed style at the star studded Hollywood event. Her up-style was uber chic with a soft tousled look, loads of volume and tonnes of texture. This style will defiantly be popular amongst brides in 2012.

Salma Hayek rocked the Ombre look on the Red Carpet. The Sun-kissed golden ends really bring out the color of her eyes, and compliment her beautiful olive skin-tone. I am a huge fan of voluminous waves, the looks is a little casual for the red carpet in my opinion.

Picture perfect Angie played down the hair in her red carpet look. The slick polished bun helped put the emphasis on gorgeous dress and makeup.

Shiny Shiny Hair!

I  am not the Biggest Fan of Kate Middleton and her simple/recycled wardrobe, however,  there is one thing that always looks perfect, and that's her hair. She has been blessed with a full head of straight hair which is naturally shiny. If you desire hair this shiny I suggest investing in good salon products to help you achieve this look.

To get maximum shine, wash and deep condition your hair, then blast it with a cold-water rinse for about three seconds. "This helps seal in conditioner, making hair easier to style and adds a ton of shine. Apply a few drops of L'Oreal's Mythic oil to your towel dried hair. Although blow-dryers and straightening irons may add to the damage, they're the only things that will make your hair look sleeker temporarily. "Your hair needs heat to smooth the cuticle,  these are the tools that can do it. Another way to achieve this look is by using The O  large Heated Rollers on pre blowdryed hair. Wrap the rollers around the ends of the hair to give it a bouncy/ flicky look. Finish the look off with a few more drops of the Mythic oil.

Mens Trends 2012

To keep your partner well groomed, and fashion forward its important his hairstyle evolves with the times. Most men get into the short back and sides routine their barbers execute with their eyes closed. If hes into it, book him an appointment at your salon and turn it into a joint outing.

I am a huge fan of this haircut for the trendy metro-sexual men of today. What makes this style so fantastic is that can be worn in a variety of ways and gives the client more freedom with altering the style to suit his mood or occasion

For those of you with a super-stylish streak, jump on the band wagon with the pastel colored tips trend to match your girlfriend.

The final trend that I am currently sporting is the disconnected faux hawk. It is also a versatile look and depending on how ballsy he want to be he can wear it in varying lengths. Below is a pic of the current length of my hair.

Hair Trends 2012

A few days into the New Year, and I have decided its time to stop neglecting my first ever blog:) New Year = New styles to take into consideration after paging through the spring/summer 2012 fashion collections.

Tousled beach hair was definitely the most popular look for the season and was seen at Givenchy, Dsquared2, Glastonbury runway shows, and my favourite twist was seen on Alexis Mabille's catwalk. Nothing say spring quite like lavender flowers sprinkled in the models’ hair.

The tousled look was also dominant at Givenchy.
For the second year running the sleek, slick pony was in evidence at Derek Lam, Dries Van Noten and Nicole Fahri, amongst others. Best worn at the nape of the neck with a section of hair tied around the top, the look is ever so Chic! This look is not going anywhere soon.

Wear loads of Hair Accessories! All the top designers adorned the hair of their models in unique ways to accessorize  their collections. Chanel's slick up-do's were finished of with beautiful pearl hair clips. Chanel wasn't the only show to feature the accessorized up-do - Yves Saint Laurent's featured armored gold headpieces, Louis Vuitton's were topped with sparkly tiaras and Marc Jacobs' were wrapped in shimmery scarves.

Louis Vuitton SS2012
As usual the most glamorous style I came across was the Versace. The hair was classic, with tonnes of volume and bounce. Similarly sensuous hair was seen at D&G.

Post Holiday Hair Remedies

Its been a hardcore party season, with Chanukah, Christmas, and new years in a row. Its the time of year when you let fried foods, and sugary cocktails pass your lips without thinking twice! Why not! You deserve it after the year you've had with travel, work, family and stress. On top of all of that :- the cold winter weather. All of these little elements might have left your hair looking worse for wear. The key to solving this problem?  Buy a bottle of Rosemary Oil and apply it onto dry hair. Dry hair will allow it to absorbs moisture more efficiently to the areas that need it most. The oils will loosen dead skin on your scalp and dissolve product residue on your hair so that when you wash (with a moisturizing shampoo, please!) all the unwanted buildup will rinse away easily. Follow up with a deep conditioning healing mask such as L'Oreal Professionals Absolute Repair Masque. Smooth  flyaway hairs with a silicone-free hair serum such as L'Oreal Professionals Mythic Oil by working a bit through damp hair before blow drying.

The New Brand in Town

I am a GHD fan through and through, they are undoubtedly the best brand when it comes to hair straighteners so far. Recently I heard about this amazing brand called Cloud Nine ( Which was launched by the original creators of GHD).  Apparently they have been around since 2009, however they recently re released their hair irons with a temperature gauge and glossy black ceramic plates which are said to contain a special and mysterious ingredient to give your hair added shine and sparkle, each and every time you use your irons. ( I am a sucker for anything that claims its 'special and mysterious'.)

In 2011 The O by Cloud Nine was launched. I have to be honest that this is the product that really caught my eye. The O is a groundbreaking innovation in professional styling, creating volume in an instant with a new take on Heated Rollers. The O rollers heat up in less than four seconds, and thanks to the unique heating system, they heat from the core, so they're hot in the hair, not in the hand. WOW! Once they've reached the maximum temperature of 130° the rollers begin to cool in the hair, giving fantastic hold, definition and shine. The O gives you the tools to create gorgeous looks that are full of body, volume and movement. All you have to do is decide how much volume you want. I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THEM!

Happy New Year!

What do you think of Shakira's New Do??

Shakira joined the long line of celebrities who chopped off their locks last year. While she looks far more sophisticated with a bob, she seems to have lost her sexiness :( Whats your opinion on this drastic makeover?
