Happy Holidays!

Its been a while since my last post, but with the Holiday Season just around the corner I decided that now is as good a time as any to get you all back into the swing of things. Whether its Channuka, Christmas or New Years there are a number of parties to you need to look savvy chic for. Below I have created a list of the most popular styles that will update your look and make you the belle of the ball.

Jennifer Love Hewitt's Ponytail

Quick tip:- If you don't have bangs, simply part your hair in a low side parting, swoop the hair over your forehead and secure in place with bobby pins.

Jennifer Lopez's Soft Top Knot

Quick tip:- An up style like this works best on dirtier hair. If your hair is to soft and silky it will simply fall down.

Beyonce's Low Slung Braid

Quick tip:- Once you have finished braiding your hair, mees it up with your fingers. If its perfectly in place you could look like a school girl.

Gwyneth's Stick Straight Blow Out

Quick tip:- Apply a smoothing serum to your hair before you flat iron, it will reduce static, and make it easier to blow dry and very shinier. Try using Mythic oil from L'Oreal Professional. See it in our product gallery HERE

Rihanna New Hair Do

Celebuzz

The S&M hitmaker is in South America on the latest leg of her Loud tour and she took time out to get up close to Brazil's most famous religious landmark sporting her new do. She has toned down her color to a more natural honey shade and removed the extremely long extensions for her latest performances. As striking as she is with the vibrant red that she has been rocking for a while, I much prefer her as a blond.

J'Adore Charlize

The spectacular ad features a seductive Charlize alongside Hollywood Starlets from the past: Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe. The creator of the clip digitized the Icons back to reality. In the glamorous video, Charlize makes her way through models, and air-kisses late Hollywood icons only to make her runway debut just in time, strutting down the runway in a slinky beaded Dior gown. In true French fashion, the video was filmed in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Enjoy the clip.

Emmy Awards Red Carpet Favorites

The first Emmy Awards ceremony was held in L.A on January 25, 1949. 63 Years down the line and the award show is as glamorous and glitzy as ever. This years event was held at the L.A Nokia theater, and was hosted by Jane Lynch ( Sue Sylvester) from Glee. The stars didn't go crazy this time with extravagant up-styles so i decided to talk about my favorite looks form this award show.

Lea Michele from Glee was effortlessly beautiful as she worked her way up the red carpet. Lea definitely should have won an award for 'Best Red Carpet Poser 2011'. She wore a red Marchesa gown, and presented an award at the annual ceremony.

Red Gowns definitely seemed to be the hit this season, with a string of celebs wearing vibrant red gowns, majority of them with a mermaid style tail or train. Sofia Vergara wore a one shoulder Vera Wang gown that showed off her famous curves. Nina Dobrev from the Vampire Diaries wore a red Donna Karan gown paired with a 19th century 50 carat vintage choker.

Giuliana Rancic from E! Tv looked flawless as usual in another red creation. Hey hair was super Ombre, and gathered into a pony tail to the side.

Julianna Marguiles from The Good Wife is a stunning and attractive actress, however the Armani gown she chose did not suit her one bit. I thought that she should have worn something a little more age appropriate. I think the structured bodice was not a good fit for her figure, and the crystals were to bombastic! sorry Armani!
Kelly Osbourne looked amazing, and was my choice for best dressed for the event. Over the years watching her transform into the woman she is today has been spectacular. Kelly wore black floor-length J. Mendel gown for her walk down the carpet. What I loved most about her look was the color and style of her hair.

How to Blow-dry your Hair at Home like a Professional

One challenge most clients face is properly recreating their style at home once they leave the salon. The key secret to doing a fantastic job at home is to section your hair properly. Sectioning provides more control of the brush, tension, heat, airflow and direction, and proper sectioning will change the way YOU style your hair forever.

1)Divide the head into four quadrants, and section out each quadrant. Start at the nape of the neck and work your way up.

2)Use proper sectioning clips to help make your job easier. Never take a section that is wider then your brush.

3)Depending on how dense your hair is, do sections between 2.5 - 3.5 cm.

4)To get the best control of your brush, place it in the hand that you write with, and the dryer in your other hand.

5)Position the dryer above and parallel to the brush, no closer then 3 cm. NEVER put the nozzel of the dryer directly onto the brush. It will not only burn your hair and damage the bristles of the brush,  it will also damage the motor of the dryer.

Gloss Treatment at Highlights

Gloss Treatments come in both a clear and colored version to boost shine, and enhance natural hair color as well as seal in brand new color to make it last longer. The glaze is both ammonia-free and enriched with apricot kernel oil for beautiful care and condition. It  really brings dull hair to life by adding shine, depth and tone.  The benefit to getting a clear gloss treatment after new color is it can extend your color to last up to two weeks longer than without it.  A colored gloss treatment typically lasts one to two weeks but can last up to four weeks by limited shampooing and heat styling. Another possibility is to do the gloss procedure in between colors to help boost shine. The Treatment takes approximately 20 minutes, followed by a deep conditioning 3 step treatment to ensure you hair is thoroughly moisturized. Contact us for more details.

5 More Handy Tips

Get Rid of Green Hair with Tomato Juice

Public pools are generally over chlorinated which tend to leave your blond locks with a greenish tinge. Massage a can of natural tomato juice into your hair as if you’re lathering shampoo, the red pigments in the tomato juice will warm up any ashy or green effects returning your hair to a beautiful blond.

Irritated scalp after colour?

After some colour procedures your scalp and hair line can be left sensitive, and red. Mix one packet of Sucrazit, or Sweet 'n' Low  into your hair-coloring solution before you apply it to prevent irritating your skin, the acid in the sugar substitute helps to balance the ph level of your colour. Who said beauty = pain.

Exfoliate your scalp to clear the dandruff

In previous post we recommended to use vinegar to help clear away dandruff. While the technique works like a charm, some clients complained that the smell of the vinegar was unpleasant. We discovered that crushing headache pills into the shampoo before you wash works just as well, and without the pungent smell. The crushed up pills work like an exfoliator in your shampoo and help lift away the dead skin the same way as it work on your face and skin.

At Home Gelatin Treatment

Create a protein treatment at home by dissolving a packet of clear gelatin in hot water. Apply the mixture generously to the ends of your hair and leave it on for 15-30 minutes. You will notice how much healthier your hair feels.

Brighten up Red Hair with Cranberry Juice

If your rocking red hair like Rihanna you might have noticed the the colour fades fast! Red dyes have the largest color molecules, which is why they wash out quickly. Cranberry juice can make red hair look temporarily more vibrant if you need a quick boost. Pour it onto hair and let sit for five minutes (or longer for a more dramatic effect), then rinse.

Dianna Argon's New Look

Dianna Argon from Glee is your classic America pin up girl, drop dead gorgeous with stunning blond hair. Well that was! She has taken a downwards spiral in terms of hair, and has become the latest in a long line of Hollywood celebrities to get a neon hair makeover. This was just a month after she hacked off her beautiful long locks. While I do encourage people to be more adventurous  when it comes to their hair I recommend to leave the neon tones for clothes, nails and accessories. If you insist on rocking the vibrant tones rather go for hair extensions that can be removed as soon as you get sick of them.

Big Spenders

Celebrities are renowned for spending astronomical amounts of money on their appearance to be picture perfect. From breakthrough cosmetic treatments to high end fashion, our idols are the pioneers in world wide trends. But how much do they spend on their hair?

Beyonce

Queen B reportedly has a climate controlled room where she stores her wig collection valued at over $1,000,000 dollars. Some of her wigs are valued at over $10 000 dollars on there own as each is hand crafted from the highest quality of natural hair available! What is nice to hear though is that Beyonce donates  her hair pieces to a charity that provides wigs to women undergoing chemotherapy.

Rihanna

Rihanna travels with Ursula Stephen, her $3,300-a-day hairstylist, and trusts only her to do her ‘do. That’s over $15 000 a week! Maybe if Rihanna didn’t change her hairstyle once a week, she wouldn’t be blowing through all that money.

Jennifer Aniston

While traveling around Europe for  red carpet events Jennifer spent $50 000 in one week on her stylist  Chris McMillan.

Justin Bieber

Justin pays his 'House call only' stylist Vanessa Price $750 dollars to cut his hair. At least he made his money back after he chopped off his swoop style, he auctioned off his trimmings for a charity organization and managed to raise $41 000 dollars!

Katy WTF are you doing!

We all Love Katy Perry, but WTF has come over her in the past few months? She started out as a gorgeous brunette at the beginning of her career. The Dark color was her trademark, and made her eyes pop. Then she decided to do a secret transformation, which was a complete disaster, and spent last month walking around with orange hair.

She then lightened it a little more for the premier of The Smurfs, and looked like a baby chick puked all over it, and now she has been spotted with bright pink hair! The pink makes her look insipid!  One can only hope that this neon tone will fade to a beautiful pastel blond, but maybe we are hoping for to much! Could someone please chop off her stylists hands!!!!

Fall/Winter 2011/12

While summer is in full swing here in Israel, catwalks are buzzing around the world with the autumn/winter collections for 2011/12, and pretty soon we will be handling requests to update our clients hues to match the season. While ice blonds and matt browns are popular during summer, we have noticed that honey tones are fast becoming the must have hair color for the coming season. Falling into the honey range are gold, chestnut, amber and maple. These hues compliment every complexion and bring radiance to post summer hair colors. The INOA brand from L'Oreal Professional has an extensive range of golden tones, and with their break through ODS (oil delivery system) technology you can rest assured that your locks will not be as shiny and healthy with any other hair color.

Four Top Bridal Styles from BRIDES.COM

If you are planning more of a casual wedding and want to wear your hair down but feel that it might get ruined from the humidity, a side braid is a definitely an option you should consider. The classic Grecian look can be transformed into a beautiful wedding style by adding so extensions to help give the braid more body. There are also a variety of different plaits to choose from to make your style more unique.

For a more unique twist on a classic bun, brides.com suggest playing around with hair accessories like the picture on the right. The stylist used gold ribbon in a twisted effect to create a beautiful hair band, finished off with a vintage broach in gold and pearls. There are a number of stores in Tel Aviv that specialize in hand made hair accessories. Ask the stylist their professional opinion before you rush out and purchase something, as it might not fit into the theme of the up style that you have chosen.

For a more modern take on the classic chingnon, Brides.com suggests a reverse twist, into a side bun finished with crystal hair pins. They add just the right amount of giltz without turning you into a ' Frecha'.

Last but not least, the natural look. If your hair is not thick or long enough to wear your hair down in beautiful waves then just add some permanent or semi permanent extensions. Flowers give the tropical beach side wedding feel, and never go out of fashion. You can either opt for real flowers such as orchids, or flowers made from fabrics, both are equally as beautiful.

Brigitte Bardot

Most hairstyles seem to have phases when they come in and out of fashion, and others are timeless classics. A perfect example of the timeless look is Brigitte Bardot. The 1960's actress was famous for her beautiful looks, her amazing thick blond hair and her bouffant. For the last decade we have seen variations of her bouffant on Hollywood celebrities from  Jennifer Love Hewitt to Pamela Anderson, who is possibly her biggest fan. Since fashion remains pretty much the same from year to year we predict that the bouffant will feature in the 2012 runway shows with the popularity of  the 60's still holding on strong. So girls its time to to tease up your crown for that stunning classic look.

Instructions - Backcombing/Teasing Steps

1.   Begin by making sure that super curly or wavy tresses are flat ironed or blow dried straight.

Although curls and waves will create major height and volume, they will also have a tendency to be more easily damaged.  Avoid backcombing hair that has any natural texture without first straightening to prevent excessive tangling.

2.   If hair is flat ironed before it is backcombed, be sure that the strands are 100% cool before teasing.  Strands that are still warm or hot will break or rip easier.

3.   Begin by using a soft boar’s head brush or similar natural bristle brush to make sure that all knots and tangles are completely removed from all strands before backcombing.

Never backcomb strands that are not first detangled completely.

4.   Using a rattail or metal comb or teasing brush, part off a section of hair from the rest of the strands. Clip the remaining hair out of the way.

5.   Using your hands in conjunction with a comb or brush, gather a small section of hair approximately 1-2 inches in thickness.

Note: Use smaller strands for tighter results or larger strands for looser results.

6.   Hold the ends of the new section straight up and out from the scalp with one hand.  In essence you will be backcombing your strands in the opposite direction from its natural growth pattern.

7.  With the other hand, run the comb down the length of the hair from the end towards the base of the scalp in short, sharp and uniform strokes.

8.  If you don't achieve enough teased hair or height in the first pass, repeat the process until the hair has the right fullness, height and texture.

9.  Spray newly teased sections with a firm hold hairspray. Repeat after each new section is created.

10. Once the first section is completely teased, pick up the next section of hair and repeat the process until all of the desired sections of hair have been completely backcombed.

11. Select a firm hairspray to completely spray all of the teased hair when the backcombing is complete.

12. Using both hands carefully smooth the teased hair back in the opposite direction making sure there is a lot of height in the desired area of the hair.  Once you get the hang of teasing your strands, you will be able to do it quickly and efficiently.

Blake Lively's beautiful up do!

Blake's back! The actress who got the ball rolling for the redhead trend at the beginning of the summer has lightened her tresses back to her trademark blond hair before the shooting begins for the new season of gossip girls. Her up styles are always effortless and beautiful, and this is defiantly one of my favorites. I think this look will be popular for brides this summer as the look is really elegant, yet not to fussy!

CHI Silk Infusion

Generally we are huge fans of Biosilk's Silk therapy. The smell is amazing, and the product really helps to reduce volume and make the hair soft and silky. With our latest order of biosilk the company that imports the product to Israel sent us samples of Chi's version called Silk Infusion The serum is AMAZING!!!!!! Today we had a number of clients with dry, rebellious, frizzy hair and the silk infusion helped to tame the hair and add amazing shine and bounce, as well as cutting the blow dry time in half. In the past 6 years since the salon has been open we have not raved about a product as much as we did today!! Well done Farouk!!

Pastel Highlights

Crazy-bright hair color like Rihanna's fire engine red is a thing of the past. The new thing? Pastel streaks, which we've been spotting in models' hair at the fall and winter runway shows such as Fendi, and amongst celebrities from Lady Gaga to The Olsen Twins. With the huge array of soft pastel tones there is defiantly something that will suit you. The muted streaks are the perfect way to update you hair color without having to do any damage to it, as this look is created with either permanent or clip in hair extensions.

This trend takes me back a good 20 years to the days of My little Pony. With their beautiful synthetic crazy hair:) Lets see how this trend catches on in Tel Aviv.

Celebrity Weddings

Its been a busy weekend for glitzy star studded celebrity weddings. Kate Moss went for a romantic beauty look for her wedding to Jamie Hince. Sam McKnight styled Kate's hair into loosely side parted half up-do and flowing waves topped off with a vintage styled veil. Off-white floral accents gave feminine detailing to the lacy headpiece, perfectly complementing her rhinestone-accented Galliano gown. The overall look was very casual and carefree, and her make up was very subtle.
Charlene looked radiant, elegant and like she was born to be a Princess. Her wedding to Prince Albert of Monaco was a lavish 3 day event with a huge concert for the citizens of Monaco, and a light and sound show thrown in as well.  Her styling was perfect, with a beautiful floor length Armani gown with a train, and side parted hair into a bun with a beautiful hair accessory for the perfect sparkle under her simple veil.
