Beyonce's New Braided Extensions

Photo: Picasa/WENN

Just over a decade has passed since Beyonce rocked the braided look in Destiny's Child. This week the singer was spotted in New York with her 6 month old daughter Blue Ivy ( the little ones got quite a set of curls!) sporting  long highlighted braids that were piled on top of her head in a ginormous bun. The hairdo is a major change from the natural wavy looks she’s favored for the last few years.

Are salon products better ??

Photo :- L'Oreal Professional

After your last visit to the salon your stylist sold you a bag of goodies that they swore would change your life and daily hair routine. Soon as you get in the car, and the buzz of the salon has worn off, you wonder...." why did I pay twice the price for products I could possibly get at the drugstore??"

Generally salon products are much better then the over the grocery store version. The perfect example is our salon, Highlights in Tel Aviv. We are a dedicated to L'Oreal Professional. L'Oreal is a multimillion dollar company that covers both salon quality products and colors as well as over the counter products. The main difference between the two is the ingredients used. The salon products have a more concentrated ingredients and higher quality protein based conditioners or moisturizing conditioners, thus enabling the conditioner to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft or scalp and lock in moisture. These quality ingredients contribute to the cost of the product and is why they are not typically found in store bought products. While salon products are more expensive then the over the counter version you need to only use a small amount to achieve the desired effect, so in the long run your salon products last 3 times as long as the non professional version.

Is chlorine or sea salt damaging your hair??

Its that time of year again when we’re all hitting the pools and beaches. While that is great, this is the time when we begin receiving calls from customers complaining about and increase in hair loss and damage. Invariably, spending a lot of time in the pool and in the sun tends to be the problem.

For normal hair, constant exposure to chlorine strips the oils, damages the follicle shaft, and fades the hair’s coloring. It goes without saying, that chlorine has the same effect as bleaching your – in fact, it is bleach. So the hue, tint and color will begin to fade and the protein bond structure of the follicle shaft will become weakened – leading to excessive split-ends, frizz and very poor manageability.

For color treated or chemically treated hair, the problem is worse. Chemical treatments typically breakdown the protein bonds rebuilding them into the shape or style you want (think perms, straightening, or relaxing). The bonds have already been weakened and if this is coupled with coloring, chlorine will accelerate damage.
Our recommendation is you try to avoid sun exposure (or wear a hat), use a moisturizing products such as Solar Sublime from L'Oreal Professional. The Shampoo in this range helps to clean the hair and get rid of any chlorine/salt deposits after your trip to the pool or the beach. The second stage in the Solar sublime treatment is a deep conditioner. The After-Sun deep conditioner smells just like fresh peaches, but it's not overpowering. It's just delicious. It's super moisturizing and makes your hair really soft and adds a lot of shine.  Another idea is to avoid chemical treatments as you go into the summer. With a little bit of a tan, few will notice unless you need to cover-up some gray.

Call our Salon to make sure we have it in stock before you come and visit as it fly's off the shelf in summer!

Hair Extensions

Wish you had thick luscious hair like all the Hollywood star? Chances are, if its long and thick.. its packed with hair extensions. If you have been living in the dark for the last 10 years, hair extensions are methods of adding commercial hair to natural hair. Almost anything can be accomplished using  hair extensions,  from adding volume to thinning hair, to lengthening the hair without it looking unnatural.

Over the years we have seen a lot of celebrity hair disasters in the extension department. Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are possibly my top two worst EVER! However not enough credit is given to the rest of the starlets that have fantastic extensions. Probably because most people don't know its not theirs ! Below are a few of my all time favorites who always have picture perfect hair.

Jennifer Lopez is the ultimate hair goddess when it comes to a full head of cascading locks. Judging by the quantity of hair I would say she uses high quality clip in extensions, or weaves. Weaves are long tresses sewn on small tight cornrows where no one can see them. These techniques are popular with african american women, and were recently made popular by the Kardashian Girls.

Lindsay Lohan might be walking disaster, but her hair is always flawless. Lindsay uses the strand by strand application technique by companies such as great lengths. Because her hair is much finer it is easier to get a natural look without breaking the bank. This technique lasts roughly three months and you can wash and style you hair as usual. I would recommend visiting the salon every couple of weeks to make sure you don't have any knots or matted pieces.

Giuliana Rancic from E! definitely won't be ridiculed on fashion police for her hair. She is always on trend with the help of clip in extensions. If your hair is fine, yet long its the perfect way to add body to the sections that are missing hair.

Choose the perfect hair color for you

Coloring you hair is the perfect way to make a statement this summer. If you are planning to do it at home, here are a few tips from the Highlights team to make sure that you choose the correct shade for your skin tone.

Always stay within three shades of your natural base color. If your hair is naturally black, chances are bleach blond will not be your ideal color.

The perfect way to judge which color suits you the most is by comparing which type of jewelry looks best on you. If gold suits you, then you are warm toned. People who have a warm undertone in their complexion usually have golden, peachy or olive skin with brown or hazel eyes. Caramel, golden and mahogany colors always look the best.

If silver or white gold looks better, then you are cool toned. Fair or rosy skin is usually the indication that you have cool undertones, with green or blue eyes. Very light blond or ashy hair colors will be the best choice for you.

Blonde it up this summer!

pinned from pinterest

A month at the beach creates the most amazing sun kissed hair color! The secret of this is DE-pigmentation. The UV rays destroy the pigments in your hair, and the salt water helps speed up the bleaching effect. Unfortunately not everyone lives by the seaside, or simply don't have the time to time to achieve this look naturally. Thank god for hair bleach and colors to help achieve this look without having to sweat it out on the beach. Visit your stylist to get the look.

Katy Perrys Purple Hair

Photo courtesy of evil beet gossip
Katy Perry was spotted this weekend at the Coachella music festival in Indigo California. The location was obviously part of the reason Miss Perry chose to dye her hair a purple shade. Seems like she has gone through all the colors of the rainbow in the last few months. With her extensions back in I am sure its not long till she dyes her locks back to the black we all love her with!

Celebrity Makeovers for March 2012

Its been a busy month for celebrity stylists. With spring in the air, the celebs have decided its time to update their locks.

Katy Perry has been rocking the blue hair for quite a while now, and on a recent trip to London she update her look with a blunt bangs, and more vibrant blue shade.

Lindsay Lohan went back to her natural red hair at the beginning of the month after being platinum blond since the end of last year.  I don't know why she didn't do it earlier! The color suits her more then blond, and now that the bangs are longer, the whole look is so much better!

January Jones was spotted at the premier of season 5 of Mad Men with pale pink highlights running through her gorgeous blond bob.

Oscars 2012

Its been a busy year so far with red carpet events and award shows. Last night was the Oscars, and as usual we stayed up late to check out what the stars were wearing to the glitziest show of the year.
Bob's in all colors and styles seemed to dominate the hairstyles at this years Oscars,
Rose Byrne

Anna Faris
Cameron Dias
Milla Jovovich
Jennifer Lopes and Tina Fey wore there hair in buns for the event. Jennifer's was more sleek and sat on her crown, while Tina's stylist chose a more unique style similar to the one Kate Bekinsdale wore to the SAG awards.

Tina Fey

Surprise guests at this years Oscars were Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II of Monaco. They were attending the opening of exhibit of The 'Collection Princesse Grace de Monaco' in L.A, and were invited after to attend the Oscars. Charlene always looks so Chic, and I loved her modern take on a french twist.
Princess Charlene of Monaco
Angelina looks stunning on the red carpet. Her hair was wavy, and a smile was nice for a change, as she always looks so robotic.
Angelina Jolie
My highlight for the red carpet was the interview between Ryan Seacrest, and "The Dictator". Trust Sasha Baron Cohen to pull a crazy stunt at the Oscars! check it out.....

Hair Trends for Spring 2012

Spring is the perfect time to shed those winter blues and unveil your new look for the summer . To help you get into the swing of thing we have two simple ways to give you maximum "WOW" factor, and put the bounce back in your step. Remember a change is as good as a holiday!

GET BANGS
Just about everyone's hair could use some fringe benefits. Its the easiest way to make a bold statement, and update your look without changing your length and style. There is a huge variety of bangs, so book a consultation with your stylist to determine which one suite you the most. For the ultimate 'bangs-du-jour' try the new heart-shaped style, featured in the New L'Oreal Professional campaign. It's quirky and super stylish, but not for the faint hearted :)

COLOR CHANGE

What better way to make a statement this spring then a bold color change? Color chameleon Rihanna debut her bold color change at a Lakers game earlier this year and then at the Grammy Awards 2012.  We've seen her with curly, straight, short, long, bright red, brown, black and multi-coloured hair. This spring she opted for a blond shaggy style with bangs. the look was achieved with bleach and weaves, and is reminiscent of 80's shag. The blond waves, and sun kissed skin tone is the perfect look for spring and summer. While blond is not suitable for everyone we can still lighten your hair a few tones to give you that sun kissed look. Contact us for more details.

Katy Perry Does The Little Mermaid for GHD

WOW! WOW! WOW! GHD released their latest campaign featuring Katy Perry as Ariel, from Disney's The Little Mermaid. A little weird advertising a  hairdryer underwater but hey, whatever!  This gorgeous ad was shot by the highly talented photographer David LaChapelle. The singers favorite part of the look was wearing the lavender wig, which looks very similar to the shade she was rocking a few months ago.  “Ariel is such a big influence. It’s always fun to dress up once in your lifetime as a mermaid and have that fish fin tail,” Katy Perry said in an interview with Style watch. The mermaids tale was custom-made by a Dubai-based designer. GHD‘s first ever hairdryer offers a smart design suitable for both left and right-handed users and some advanced technology for professional use. Don't you just love lavender hair?

Braided Up-Styles Dominate the SAG Awards 2012

Headband braids are always popular, but they dominated the redcarpet at the 2012 SAG Awards.
Dianna Agron chose a messy fishtail braided up-do that wrapped 3/4 of the way around her head. Renee Bargh's Braid is incorporated like a hairband into her cascading curls, and neatly tucked into her quiff. Ariel Winter had a subtle face framing braid, while Kaley Cuoco wore a thick plait accentuated by lots of free tendrils that gave the style an old Hollywood  feel. I am so happy that braids are here to stay! The other trend that has stuch around with us is the ballerina bun. Zoe Saldana's bun was less structured, and much softer then Natalie Portman's up-style, however both are glamorous and elegant on the red carpet.

Colour Bug

This fun and fashionable boho trend has everyone talking. Brightly hued highlights are on the tips of many celeb strands. We were recently introduced to a tool that can give us the look, without the commitment. Kevin Murphy's COLOR BUG allows you to color the ends of your hair temporarily with " Eye shadow" for the hair.
