Hollywood Hair Icons

Jean Harlow

Most people assume that Marilyn Monroe was the original Hollywood blond bombshell, however 20 years before her in the 1930s Jean Harlow started the trend. Her hair was colored by Max Factor, and in those days the concoctions of ammonia and peroxide were a lot more unpleasant then the same process today. her penciled in eyebrows, and pearly white skin were the perfect combination for her platinum finger waved bob.

Veronica Lake

Veronica Lake was a Hollywood actress, pin-up girl and the hair style icon of the 1940's. Her style was so iconic it was dubbed the 'peek-a-boo style. Unfortunately she suffered from alcoholism and mental illnesses yet her style still inspires styles to this day.

The Marilyn

Marilyn got the girls in the 50's  to pull out the peroxide and bleach their hair blond, as well as paving the way for the stereotypical blond with more looks then braincells. Her Platinum roller set do is possibly the most recognizable styles of all time immortalized by artist such as Andy Warhol.

The Jackie O

Jackie O was the epitome of style, from her over sized sunglasses to her exquisite Chanel suits. While most women in the 60's were wearing their hair in beehives and updo's, Jackie wore her hair in a side swept, flicked out bouffant style, that became one of the most requested of its time.

The 70's Shag

With times changing in the 70's in America it paved the way for less conservative hairstyles.Shag was the classic hairstyle of the '70s and was considered one of the 'coolest'. Paul McGregor had invented the Shag hairstyle and gave it to Jane Fonda in the movie Klute which became one of the most requested styles(Jane is still wearing the Shag just in a shorter version). The style was worn by men and women of that time David Bowie, Rod Stewart, and everyone on The Brady Bunch.

Farrah Fawcett

Sure, the 1970s was also about Abba and "flower power" hairstyles, but everybody knows Farrah Fawcett's long layered hair from Charlie's Angels. The massive impact of Fawcett's icy highlighted long layered look has made it the most famous hairstyle of all time and still continues to make waves in hair fashion ever since the 70s. Farrah's style is also a variation of the popular 70's Shaggy style.

80's Series Icons

With Dallas and Dynasty the most popular T.V shows of the 80's BIG hair was a necessity to keep up with the times. People we getting perms, teasing there hair till it stood on end and hair spraying  it to death to get the must have bouffants. Elizabeth Taylor ( RIP) told Joan Collins that she was a fan of her hairstyle in Dynasty and told her she was copying it! Quoted from her article My wickedly funny friend Liz Taylor...'She was very upfront in telling me she was copying it and I considered it a huge compliment that someone as iconic as 'La Liz' would want to replicate my hair style'.

Meg Ryan

We saw its popularity of the Shag grow again in the 1990’s with Meg Ryan’s shaggy/choppy haircut done by Sally Hershberge which became one the the three most requested hairstyles in the 90's.

The Rachel

Jennifer Aniston's hairstylist, Chris McMillan, created the cut, and she wore the hairstyle during Friends first few seasons. It immediately became very popular among women as "The Rachel". Jennifer revealed in a recent issue of Glamour Magazine the it was the ' ugliest' hairstyle she ever had." There have been moments I'd rather not relive, like that whole Rachel thing. I love Chris ( her hairstylist ), and he's the bane of my existence at the same time because he started that damn Rachel, which was not my best look. How do I say this? I think it was the ugliest haircut I've ever seen. What I really want to know is, how did that thing have legs? Let's just say I'm not a fan of short, layered cuts on me personally, so I don't love revisiting that particular era."

Sliding Doors

Gwyneth Paltrow cut her hair  in 1997 for her role in the hit Movie Sliding Doors. The style was a modified pixie haircut that set the ball rolling for women all over the world to chop off their Rachel's.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham was the Queen of the 2000's with 3 looks that are still requested now. Victoria led the WAG evolution in the early 2000's with the gorgeous head full of extensions. The more fake items those girls could enhance their looks the happier they were. It was reported that her stylist charged back in the day over GBP 3000 for her extensions.

The Pob
Victoria Beckham has long been known for her sense of style and a trend setter. When she recently went for the chop and lost her hair extensions, women everywhere stood up and took notice. Her new bob quickly became known as the Pob due to her nickname “Posh Spice” from her Spice Girls days.

The Blond Pob

When The Beckham's moved to Hollywood, Vicky tried desperately hard to fit into the scene. She got the blond itch and took her pob shorter more angled look. Although shes not quite suited to be a blond, the haircut was still requested, and sported by other celebrities including Rihanna.
