Hair Secrets from around the World - 9

Safflower is a beautiful plant with either yellow, orange or red flowers. Its native to arid environment and grows a deep taproot which enables it to thrive in environments with low water supplies. Today's top exporters of this plant are North America and Mexico, however it is one of  the oldest crops recorded in history. Chemical analysis of ancient Egyptian textiles dated to the Twelfth dynasty identified that yellow and red dyes were made from the flowers themselves. Deep inside The Tomb of the Tutankhamen, archeologists also found garlands made from this beautiful flower.

The Ancient Egyptians loved to indulge in beauty treatments, and Cleopatra herself was credited with writing a book of  beauty secrets including mud baths from the Dead Sea and cosmetic oils made from safflower seeds. What's interesting  in Ancient Egypt is that men also used cosmetics and essential oils  much like today's metrosexuals . I would imagine this was necessary for both genders in such an arid climate. There is evidence that  suggests Safflower oil  was used to stimulate hair-growth and eliminate bald-spots.The oil dilates blood vessels in the scalp, which stimulates circulation of nutrients to the roots. The oil is packed with vitamin E and essential fatty acid's similar to sebum which we produce naturally. Safflower oil was not only used by men of that time, the women also benefited from the nourishing oil, which protected and moisturized their hair.

It is extremely beneficial for natural as well as dry chemically treated hair. If you want to use it as a treatment for the hair apply a generous amount to dry hair and cover in a hot wet towel, for 5-10 minutes. After this shampoo and condition as normal. You can also use a few drops to help smooth out frizzy hair.

Mens Trends 2012

To keep your partner well groomed, and fashion forward its important his hairstyle evolves with the times. Most men get into the short back and sides routine their barbers execute with their eyes closed. If hes into it, book him an appointment at your salon and turn it into a joint outing.

I am a huge fan of this haircut for the trendy metro-sexual men of today. What makes this style so fantastic is that can be worn in a variety of ways and gives the client more freedom with altering the style to suit his mood or occasion

For those of you with a super-stylish streak, jump on the band wagon with the pastel colored tips trend to match your girlfriend.

The Man Quiff

I have been following Jedwards man quiffs around since they appeared on x-factor back in 2009. While the look is not conventional, it definitely will get you noticed. The look has really caught on now in 2011 as seen in the semi finals to the Eurovision song contest sponsored by Schwarzkopf. I love this look and am tempted to grown a mini version........What do you think? Yay or nay for Tristan??

Boardwalk Empires 'Jimmy' hairstyle helped the Jedward trend really take off this year, with the clean cut shaved sides and pompadour style. With a bit of gel, mousse, voluminous lotions and a tonne of hair spray Jimmy's hair would probably stand as tall as James and Edwards quiff.
Tim Schou, the lead vocalist from the band representing Denmark also wore his hair high in a mini version of the Jed-quiff.
The Russian Participant Alexej Vorobjov quiff was more reminiscent of Elvis.

Ok, now before you think that only eurovision boys are wearing their hair big, I have noticed the look on the catwalks summer shows, and in catalogs for overseas hairstylists. According to the study, which polled more than 4,000 Brits on their favorite men's hairstyle 50% of men voted for the King’s trademark quiff,  However, 66% of women found men with crew cuts, sported by style icons such as movie star Brad Pitt, had more sex appeal than men with quiffs ( I suppose I am not really after the ladies vote on this style :)
