Red Carpet Favourites of 2013

Grammy Awards 2013

Our Favourite look from the 2013 Grammy Awards was definitely Rihanna's subtle Ombre look. The color complimented both her skin tone, and her dress.

Taylor Swifts Grecian style updo was the perfect choice for her gorgeous gown. The blunt bangs gave an edge to the soft braids.

We loved Jennifer Lopez's look for the Grammy's. The top knot is Jenny's take on the current trendy bun. Its sleek and polished and made the entire look more refined.

Oscars 2013

Reese Witherspoon was our favorite look from the Oscar's 2013. The side swept retro glam waves were the perfect choice for Hollywood's most glamorous red carpet event.

Jennifer Lawrence shone bright at the Oscars. Her soft updo was elegant, sophisticated and guaranteed to be a hit among brides this year.

Weddings Abroad

Cape Town, South Africa was the latest destination for top stylist at Highlights Hair Salon, Jonathan Jarzin, to work his magic on the beautiful bride Wendy Stulting. Wendy's hair is quite fine, so Jonathan used  XXL volume mousse from Playball on her roots, before using a curling iron to create beach waves synonymous to the Capetonian lifestyle.

" Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities I have visited in the World. Its natural beauty combined with the carefree, easygoing lifestyle was my inspiration. I wanted to create a look that was effortless and aesthetic."

After the ceremony Jonathan decided to let Wendy's hair down.  He secured the cascading curls into a side swept style.

Braided Up-Styles Dominate the SAG Awards 2012

Headband braids are always popular, but they dominated the redcarpet at the 2012 SAG Awards.
Dianna Agron chose a messy fishtail braided up-do that wrapped 3/4 of the way around her head. Renee Bargh's Braid is incorporated like a hairband into her cascading curls, and neatly tucked into her quiff. Ariel Winter had a subtle face framing braid, while Kaley Cuoco wore a thick plait accentuated by lots of free tendrils that gave the style an old Hollywood  feel. I am so happy that braids are here to stay! The other trend that has stuch around with us is the ballerina bun. Zoe Saldana's bun was less structured, and much softer then Natalie Portman's up-style, however both are glamorous and elegant on the red carpet.

Favorite looks from The Golden Globes 2012

Charlize Theron looked spectacular as always at the Golden Globes 2012. Her subtle wavy hair worn side bun was finished off with a sparkly hair band, an accessory spotted on the Louis Vuitton SS12 runway shows. While the bun could have done with an extension to add some body, the overall look was very cute, and her dress was spectacular!

Kate Beckinsale oozed style at the star studded Hollywood event. Her up-style was uber chic with a soft tousled look, loads of volume and tonnes of texture. This style will defiantly be popular amongst brides in 2012.

Salma Hayek rocked the Ombre look on the Red Carpet. The Sun-kissed golden ends really bring out the color of her eyes, and compliment her beautiful olive skin-tone. I am a huge fan of voluminous waves, the looks is a little casual for the red carpet in my opinion.

Picture perfect Angie played down the hair in her red carpet look. The slick polished bun helped put the emphasis on gorgeous dress and makeup.

Four Top Bridal Styles from BRIDES.COM

If you are planning more of a casual wedding and want to wear your hair down but feel that it might get ruined from the humidity, a side braid is a definitely an option you should consider. The classic Grecian look can be transformed into a beautiful wedding style by adding so extensions to help give the braid more body. There are also a variety of different plaits to choose from to make your style more unique.

For a more unique twist on a classic bun, brides.com suggest playing around with hair accessories like the picture on the right. The stylist used gold ribbon in a twisted effect to create a beautiful hair band, finished off with a vintage broach in gold and pearls. There are a number of stores in Tel Aviv that specialize in hand made hair accessories. Ask the stylist their professional opinion before you rush out and purchase something, as it might not fit into the theme of the up style that you have chosen.

For a more modern take on the classic chingnon, Brides.com suggests a reverse twist, into a side bun finished with crystal hair pins. They add just the right amount of giltz without turning you into a ' Frecha'.

Last but not least, the natural look. If your hair is not thick or long enough to wear your hair down in beautiful waves then just add some permanent or semi permanent extensions. Flowers give the tropical beach side wedding feel, and never go out of fashion. You can either opt for real flowers such as orchids, or flowers made from fabrics, both are equally as beautiful.

Blake Lively's beautiful up do!

Blake's back! The actress who got the ball rolling for the redhead trend at the beginning of the summer has lightened her tresses back to her trademark blond hair before the shooting begins for the new season of gossip girls. Her up styles are always effortless and beautiful, and this is defiantly one of my favorites. I think this look will be popular for brides this summer as the look is really elegant, yet not to fussy!

Celebrity Weddings

Its been a busy weekend for glitzy star studded celebrity weddings. Kate Moss went for a romantic beauty look for her wedding to Jamie Hince. Sam McKnight styled Kate's hair into loosely side parted half up-do and flowing waves topped off with a vintage styled veil. Off-white floral accents gave feminine detailing to the lacy headpiece, perfectly complementing her rhinestone-accented Galliano gown. The overall look was very casual and carefree, and her make up was very subtle.
Charlene looked radiant, elegant and like she was born to be a Princess. Her wedding to Prince Albert of Monaco was a lavish 3 day event with a huge concert for the citizens of Monaco, and a light and sound show thrown in as well.  Her styling was perfect, with a beautiful floor length Armani gown with a train, and side parted hair into a bun with a beautiful hair accessory for the perfect sparkle under her simple veil.

Check out the amazing article from Monica Events! Thank you Monica!

Looking for the perfect wedding hairstyle to deal with Israel's weather? Get top wedding hair tips from Highlights Hair Salon in Tel Aviv expert stylist Jonathan Jarzin and make a long lasting impression!

Summer is undoubtedly the most popular time of year to get married in Israel, with the vision of beach a side chuppa at sunset followed by an extravagant outdoor event. While your fairytale fantasy is brought to life with the help of Monica Events there is but one thing she cannot control: Mother Nature. While you're guaranteed sunshine, the level of humidity is extremely high and tends to hang in the air even after sunset. Jonathan Jarzin from Highlights Hair Salon in Tel Aviv recommends choosing a style that works with the texture of your hair. If your hair is curly don't fight it, incorporate it into your look to be sure that it will not go frizzy. If your hair is straight don't try a wavy look as the curls will drop in no time.

The second step is whether to wear your hair up or down.
A sophisticated updo
There are so many factors to take into consideration: the style of your wedding dress, shape of your face, the atmosphere of your wedding etc. If the event is outside only, the smartest choice would be to go for a full up style, that way you can be sure the style will remain the same thorough out the evening. If your ceremony is outside, followed by an indoor reception, you can get away with either something half up, or a full up-style that can be easily opened out to create a half down look.
Half down look
Depending on how many people in your wedding party are having the hair done, I would recommend to start getting ready from 12.00pm. You don't want to rush through any of the preparations of getting ready. Usually we do hair in the salon, but if you prefer to get ready in the comfort of your hotel room we can organize the stylist to come to you.

If you are having a winter wedding you will be able to wear any style you desire, without the humidity to ruin it.

Remember, your hairstyle is one of the most important details when it comes to feeling amazing on your wedding day. Make sure you are in the hands of en expert.

Tips for your Wedding Day

Your wedding day is supposed to be one of the happiest days of your life. Naturally, every woman wants to look the best that she possibly can on this special occasion, so here are some tips for you to follow to ensure that your hair will be the least of your problems.

  • We recommend using a wedding planner to help capture your dreams for the perfect wedding. Monica Cohenca is an amazing  bi-lingual  events planner located in Tel Aviv. check out her website for more details  .http://www.monicaevents.com.
  • At least 2 months before the day of the wedding meet with your stylist to discuss you options. It helps to explain the mood of the wedding to your stylist and if possible to have a picture of the dress to show them.
  • Come to the trial-run with clean hair, it is much easier for the stylist to work with.
  • The time of day, and the type of wedding you are having also plays a major part in choosing your style.
  • Do some research on the internet, or from bridal magazines to help put together a few styles to show your hair dresser. Don't set your heart on one option because it might not be suitable for your hair type or shape face.
  • To help make the decision easier you can ask the stylist to photograph the styles from all angles.
  • Hair accessories are a popular way to personalize your look, and with the wide variety of fresh flowers and accessory stores its definitely worth checking out your options. Ask your stylist for more details.
  • When booking the appointment for your up-do take into consideration the timing for the make up and preparation to make sure you are not rushed through anything.
  • If you are using hair extensions and you color your hair make sure to book the appointment a week before the big day to have your color touched up. This is also the best time to match  your freshly touched up color to the extensions you will be using.
On your wedding day make sure to wear a button up shirt so you don't have to worry about taking it off over your head and messing up your amazing wedding do.
